April Fools Day

It’s April Fool’s Day and while I could make an awful joke, this year and 2020 have shown that the joke continues to be on all of us. Our lives, the way we work, the impact of COVID- 19 have reshaped the way we live. What isn’t funny is the continued rage and hostility that our Asian American community is facing. From the shooting in Atlanta to the attack of a Filipino woman in Times Square, New York, hate is alive and well in our communities.

Much like child sexual abuse, it is easy to ignore something when it’s not happening to you or doesn’t affect you. Much like child sexual abuse, we must break the silence because violence against anyone in our community, is an attack on us all. Much like child sexual abuse, it’s our job to amplify the voices of lived experience and to not just be performative allies.

So this April Fool’s Day and every day, we stand beside and in support of our Asian brothers and sisters and will create a world safe for all of our children. There’s nothing funny about that.
